Schedule

Two full-time positions will be filled.  Each of them offers a fixed 5-day, 8 hours-per-day, schedule with two consecutive days off.  Either schedule may require working one of the two weekend days, but not both (i.e. either Saturday or Sunday).  One schedule will likely involve opening the store (7:30am—4:00pm), and the other will involve closing the store (11:00am—7:30pm).

Responsibilities

Josephs’ is a very dynamic environment, with associates simultaneously serving in a number of roles.  Everyone is heavily involved in helping customers who come into the store by:

·         Advising customers on products and alternative solutions,

·         Locating products throughout the store,

·         Ringing up purchases in our point-of-sale computer system, and

·         Researching and initiating special orders for non-stock items.

In addition, the positions being filled will assume full responsibility for “merchandising” several product lines throughout the store.   Merchandising means identifying new products, determining display methods, placing twice-weekly replenishment orders, discontinuing obsolete or underperforming merchandise, and maintaining inventory records (pricing, product counts, etc.).  Depending on fit, the two positions will each be assigned merchandising responsibilities for any of the following product lines:

·         Seasonal décor and outdoor living products

·         Locally-sourced food and drink items

·         Housewares (kitchen, bath, canning, etc.)

·         Light bulbs

·         Cleaning supplies

·         Sealants and adhesives

·         Electrical products

·         Electronic products

·         Builders’ hardware

·         Lumber and millwork

Other activities

On any given day, associates will likely find themselves performing a number of tasks in helping customers, including:

·         Cutting or drilling lumber or metal,

·         Duplicating keys,

·         Mixing paint,

·         Giving treats to visiting dogs,

·         Helping customers load their purchased items

Personal characteristics

Time has shown that some combination of certain characteristics make it much more likely for a person to succeed at Josephs’:

·         Being hell-bent on helping people, even the difficult ones,

·         Being fluent on computers and internet use,

·         Understanding modern-day, computerized inventory management,

·         Being cheerful, talkative, spirited, and engaging,

·         Being hungry to learn about anything and everything,

·         Being comfortable saying “I don’t know…”, followed quickly by “…but I’ll find out”,

·         Having varied tastes in music,

·         Being able to think three-dimensionally,

·         Being Macgyver-like, someone who can see different ways to do the same thing,

·         Having tried and failed at any number of household repair projects, then having tried again and succeeded.
